Village of Egg Harbor Honored with Governor’s Tourism Stewardship Award
The Village of Egg Harbor was honored with the Governor’s Tourism Stewardship Award at the virtual ceremony for the Governor’s Tourism Awards on October 21, 2020.
Each year Wisconsin’s tourism industry honors five Governor’s Tourism Awards recipients at the Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism. This year, the conference was canceled, and the event was held virtually.
The Governor’s Tourism Stewardship Award is presented to a business or community that uses and/or promotes sustainable practices. The nomination read, “In 2017, a dedicated group of eco-focused minds came together in Egg Harbor to bring more sustainable practices to the community with an environmental health mission. Recognized as a Green Tier Legacy Community, the Village of Egg Harbor created a task force to turn the conversation into action. New programs include a free bike share system, public seed library, solar energy in the village, and new recycling containers and electric car charging stations.”
Ryan Heise, Egg Harbor Village Administrator accepted the award. “The Village is humbled by the award and honored to be recognized. We have made sustainability part of our core mission and hope it’s contagious. Protection of our natural environment seems to be a cause that everyone can get behind in Door County.”
The Governor's Tourism Awards were designed to recognize and acknowledge those individuals and businesses in the travel and tourism industry that have shown dedication, creativity, and excellence. Sponsored by the Governor’s Council on Tourism, the Governor’s Award recognizes and honors people and organizations that have made a significant impact on Wisconsin’s Travel and Tourism industry.
This year’s Governor’s Tourism Awards had 41 nominees in five different categories. Along with the village of Egg Harbor winning the Stewardship Award, The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay was an Arts, Culture, and Heritage Award nominee, and Cameryn Kwaterski, who grew up in Door County and now works as the Executive Director of Visit Rome, WI Inc won the Rising Star Award.
