Door County Prepares for Tourism, When The Time Is Right

While the traditional early May start to Door County’s tourism season will be postponed this year due to the health crisis and Wisconsin’s safer at home order, Door County’s tourism industry is still preparing to welcome visitors once it is safe to do so.

Door County tourism leaders and businesses say the additional time will be used to plan and prepare enhanced safety protocols that focus on the well-being of visitors, residents and workers through guidance from state and local health authorities. “We want to make sure we provide a safe destination for visitors to come back to and enjoy, when the time is right,” said Jack Moneypenny, President/CEO of Destination Door County.

Moneypenny emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses and their efforts to safely reopen as restrictions in the safer at home order are lifted under direction from the state’s Badger Bounce Back plan. He said Destination Door County is working with local health care and government agencies as well as area business leaders to provide updated guidelines and safety recommendations with businesses throughout the county. This will be an ongoing process as circumstances evolve.

In the meantime, Destination Door County encourages people to dream of heading back to Door County when travel is allowed once again. Door County destination guides can be ordered at DoorCounty.com and are mailed for free. Future visits can be researched online. Tourism businesses can be supported through shopping online or by purchasing gift certificates to use during a future visit. Visitors can write an online review of a favorite Door County place or share a special memory from Door County on social media. When the time is right, Door County will be ready to welcome back visitors.
