Door County Helps Wisconsin Bundle Up This Winter Season

The Door County Visitor Bureau is inviting residents and visitors to drop off new or gently used coats, sweaters, hats, mittens and other warm clothing items as part of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s “Big Bundle Up” donation campaign. The Big Bundle Up is a statewide collection program that runs through January 3, 2016. All locally donated items will be distributed back to Door County residents in need.
This is the fifth year of the program. To date, the statewide initiative has collected more than 49,000 winter items, including nearly 2,300 items in Door County alone.
Eight different tourism organizations in Door County have committed to participate in this year's Big Bundle Up cold weather clothing drive. Those organizations include the Door County Visitor Bureau, Baileys Harbor Community Association, Carlsville Business Association, Egg Harbor Business Association, Fish Creek Civic Association, Jacksonport Information Center, Sister Bay Advancement Association and the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center.
A container will be located at participating locations for donors to drop off new or gently used clothing items. At the conclusion of the drive, all donated items will be distributed back to Door County residents through local charity partners. With the spirit of the holiday season upon us, donating winter clothing items is the perfect way to give back to Door County families in need.
Jon Jarosh, director of communications & PR for the Door County Visitor Bureau, is helping organize this year’s effort in Door County. “Last year's collection generated over 800 items in Door County,” Jarosh said today during the unveiling of the donation box at the Door County Visitor Bureau’s Welcome Center in Sturgeon Bay. “We're excited to be partnering with seven of our local visitor information centers this year, and would love to collectively get another 800 cold weather clothing items to donate back to our neighbors in need here in Door County,” he said.
Jarosh will report the total number of items collected in Door County to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism in January in hopes of helping the statewide campaign top the 10,000 mark this year.
Some locations such as the Door County Welcome Center will accept donations 24/7, but hours may vary from place to place. Details about each drop off location are as follows:
