Door County Certified Tourism Ambassador Program Hosts 1st Student Program

The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) hosted their first student focused Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) class on March 7, 2019 at Crossroads at Big Creek in partnership with Sturgeon Bay Schools.

Twelve students from the Future Business Leaders of America organization participated in the class, along with Sturgeon Bay High School Principal, Robert Nickel and Superintendent, Dan Tjernagel.

The course included modules on customer service, business communication, the power of tourism, and Door County history and attractions.

Yvonne Torres, CTA Program Manager is thrilled for the partnership. “This program gives students the tools to contribute to our growing culture of enhancing customer/visitor experiences at our many businesses and overall impressions of our county as a whole,” said Torres.

Robert Nickel, Sturgeon Bay High School Principal expressed appreciation to the DCVB for offering the course. “Students left this course with three distinct benefits: earning an industry-level certification, learning more about the place in which they live, and engaging with local professionals who work in the tourism industry,” said Nickel. “We look forward to future course offerings as we build a base of tourism ambassadors among our high school population,” he said.

Since 2009 the DCVB has facilitated the CTA program, designed to train tourism related business employees that come in contact with Door County visitors. The multi-faceted program serves to increase regional tourism by enhancing the visitor experience and aims to drive visitor spending through in-depth knowledge of the destination and to ensure consistent delivery of a positive destination brand experience.

The Door County Visitor Bureau is the official tourism marketing organization for Door County, whose mission is to generate incremental economic impact for the community by attracting visitors with strategies that ensure sustainable tourism.
