Alexander’s Restaurant in Fish Creek was filled with a crowd of around 130 people on Wednesday night for the Door County Visitor Bureau’s (DCVB) 91st annual meeting.

The evening started with a 5:30 PM social hour followed by the annual meeting at 6:30 PM. The official business of the night took place when new DCVB board members Mona Christensen, Executive Director of Birch Creek Music Performance Center and Steve Leonard, Executive Director of the Ridges Sanctuary were voted in by those members present. Christensen and Leonard will begin their terms in January, 2017.

Jack Moneypenny, President/CEO of the DCVB announced the third annual Certified Tourism Ambassador Employer of the Year award to Kathy and Tim Guckenberg, owners of Wagon Trail Campground. Moneypenny presented the award to Kathy Guckenberg during the event. “They have a 100% certification rate and we even had four of their employees contact us recommending this award for the campground,” he said.

Also, displayed during the evening was the 2017 Official Door County Visitor Guide cover. The wrap-around cover features a serene picture of a woman relaxing in a hammock on a sunny day in Newport State Park on the shores of Europe Lake. The 2017 Official Door County Visitor Guide will be widely available in early January.

The meeting ended with the DCVB’s third “Spirit of Door County” raffle drawing, with Greg Stillman from Parkwood Lodge winning the grand prize of DCVB services valued at over $3,200. Two other businesses also won free DCVB membership for a year. Proceeds from the raffle are used to support the Carole Counard Scholarship Fund, which awards $1,000 scholarships to eligible Door County residents pursuing higher education. The scholarships will be given out in spring at the DCVB’s 2017 annual tourism breakfast. More information about this program can be found here.
